A brief introduction to the Department of Medicine of Shenzhen University
Shenzhen University was approved by the Ministry of Education in December 2008 to offer a major in clinical medicine, and the Medical College of Shenzhen University was established in the same year. In April 2013, in order to further integrate the discipline resources, optimize the discipline layout, and promote the rapid development of the medical discipline of Shenzhen University, the school established the Medical Department of Shenzhen University. Professor Guan Youfei, a scholar from the Yangtze River of the Ministry of Education, winner of the National Outstanding Youth Fund and chief scientist of the Ministry of Science and Technology 973, serves as the director of the Medical Department, and Xie Miao, secretary of the Party Committee of the Medical College, is also the deputy director of the Medical Department.
The Medical Department is based on the concept of "high-end, elite, advanced and superb" and the construction principle of "small-scale, research-oriented and elite". There are 4 undergraduate majors (clinical medicine, pharmacy, biomedical engineering, medical device engineering), 2 master's degree authorization points (clinical medicine, biomedical engineering), and 1 professional degree authorization point (biomedical engineering master).
About 75% of the teachers in the Department of Medicine have overseas study or working experience, including academicians of the National Academy of Sciences, the Academy of Engineering and the Academy of Medical Sciences, academicians of "double employment", scholars from the Yangtze River of the Ministry of Education, and specially appointed experts of the National Thousand talents Plan. The Department of Medicine is actively exploring innovative talent training models to meet the needs of the development of medical science and the transformation of medical and health service models in the 21st century. In the aspect of clinical medical professional training, we will actively explore the "1 (basic science and engineering, pre-medical) + 5 (medical undergraduate) + 4 (master's degree)" ten-year elite medical talent training mode. In the aspect of teaching, we vigorously carry out the teaching reform, adopt the organ-system-centered integrated curriculum combined with PBL teaching model, implement the double tutor system (that is, each student has a scientific research supervisor and a clinical tutor after entering school), and promote the "three early" teaching concept, that is, "early contact with practice, early contact with clinical practice, early contact with scientific research". Biomedical engineering major and medical device major adopt the teaching mode with discipline as the main line, which emphasizes the cultivation of students' self-study and practical ability, as well as the improvement of innovative ability. At the same time, the Department is actively expanding the external space for running schools, in line with the international medical education model, and has jointly constructed a clinical doctor training system with the University of Dublin, Ireland, and has carried out in-depth cooperation with Monash University in Australia, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and other first-class medical universities at home and abroad.
While striving to explore new educational models, the Medical Department has made great efforts to enhance the strength and core competitiveness of running a school, improve the ability of scientific and technological innovation, and stimulate teachers' enthusiasm for work by formulating a series of incentive mechanisms. and vigorously build oncology, metabolic diseases, cardiovascular diseases, neuropsychiatric diseases, kidney diseases and regenerative medicine and other major disease direction and cutting-edge discipline advantage scientific research team. Now it has many key research platforms, such as Metabolic Disease Research Center of Shenzhen University, Cancer Research Center of Shenzhen University, National biochemical Engineering Technology Research Center, National and Local Joint Laboratory of key Technologies of Medical Ultrasound, Guangdong key Laboratory of Biomedical Information testing and Ultrasound Imaging, State key Laboratory of Respiratory Diseases, Allergy Branch of Shenzhen University, etc. The Department of Medicine has strongly advocated and supported transformational medical research, and some of the achievements have been industrialized. Among them, the Recombinant Human Atrial natriuretic Peptide (rhANP) project of the biochemical Engineering Center has signed an industrialization contract with production enterprises at the end of 2012, with a total contract of 43 million yuan.
The Medical Department started in the Houhai Campus of Shenzhen University. The planned medical campus is located in Xili University City, with a planned construction area of 150000 square meters. The directly affiliated university hospital is adjacent to the new campus of the Medical Department and is built synchronously with the Medical Department. The goal of its construction is to build a comprehensive, high-end Grade 3A teaching hospital with specialist characteristics, which integrates medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, rehabilitation and prevention and health care.
