南通大学外国语学院简介

外国语学院现有教职工186人，其中专任教师173人。现有教授5人，副教授49人，讲师105人，硕士生导师17人，博士(含在读)14人，硕士118人，学院常年聘用外籍教师10人。现有全日制在校生1098人，成教生450人。学院三个系部：英语系、日语系和公共外语教学部，下设8个教研室：有3个校级研究中心，分别为：澳大利亚研究中心、英美文学研究中心和外国语言学研究中心;5个院级研究所：英语文学与文化研究所、语言学研究所、应用语言学研究所、翻译研究所和小语种研究所等。学院拥有英语语言文学校级重点学科、外国语言文学一级学科硕士点。英语专业于2006年被授予校品牌专业、江苏省特色专业称号，2008年被遴选为教育部国家级特色专业建设点。学院是2004年教育部180所大学英语教改试点单位之一。

科研成果

学术研究是学院教育教学的有效支撑。近几年来，学院教师每年发表论文100篇以上，共出版教材8部，专著、译著14部，词典5部。2004年以来，学院承担校级教学、科研项目50项，市厅级以上教学、科研项目26项，国家级课题3项，省部级项目10余项，目前学院有省级“青蓝工程”中青年学术带头人2名，省级优秀青年骨干教师4名，南通市高层次人才培养对象2人。2004年以来，全院获得校级优秀教学及教学研究成果奖41项，省级以上优秀教学及教学研究成果奖22项，有省精品课程和省精品教材。

国际交流和中外合作始终是学院的工作重点，院内90多名教师已有国外访学经历，出国留学的学生数不断增加。

为适应社会快速发展的需求和挑战，学院努力培养宽口径、厚基础、科学精神与人文精神相结合的具有创新能力和高度责任感的人才。近几年来，英语专业四级、八级考试成绩一直保持在全国平均水平以上，毕业生就业率达到99%。

A brief introduction to the School of Foreign languages, Nantong University

The Foreign Studies Institute now has 186 faculty members, including 173 full-time teachers. At present, there are 5 professors, 49 associate professors, 105 lecturers, 17 master’s degree supervisors, 14 doctoral students and 118 master’s degrees. The college employs 10 foreign teachers all the year round. There are 1098 full-time students and 450 adult students. The college has three departments: the English Department, the Japanese Department and the Public Foreign language Teaching Department, with eight teaching and research departments: three school-level research centers, namely, the Australian Research Center, the Anglo-American Literature Research Center and the Foreign Linguistics Research Center; and five faculty-level research institutes: the Institute of English Literature and Culture, the Institute of Linguistics, the Institute of Applied Linguistics, the Institute of Translation and the Institute of small languages. The college has a school-level key discipline of English language and literature and a master’s degree in first-tier discipline of foreign language and literature. The English major was awarded the title of Brand Specialty and Jiangsu characteristic Specialty in 2006 and was selected as the National characteristic Specialty Construction site of the Ministry of Education in 2008. The college is one of 180 pilot units of college English teaching reform of the Ministry of Education in 2004.

Scientific research achievements

Academic research is the effective support of college education and teaching. In recent years, college teachers have published more than 100 papers every year, including 8 teaching materials, 14 monographs and translations, and 5 dictionaries. Since 2004, the college has undertaken 50 school-level teaching and scientific research projects, 26 teaching and scientific research projects at or above the municipal department level, 3 national projects, and more than 10 provincial and ministerial projects. at present, the college has 2 young and middle-aged academic leaders at the provincial “Blue Project”. There are 4 excellent young backbone teachers at the provincial level and 2 high-level talents in Nantong. Since 2004, the whole school has won 41 school-level excellent teaching and teaching research awards and 22 provincial-level excellent teaching and teaching research awards, including provincial high-quality courses and provincial high-quality teaching materials.

International exchanges and Sino-foreign cooperation have always been the focus of the college’s work. More than 90 teachers have visited abroad, and the number of students studying abroad is increasing.

In order to meet the needs and challenges of the rapid development of society, the college strives to train talents with broad caliber, thick foundation, scientific spirit and humanistic spirit with innovative ability and high sense of responsibility. In recent years, the scores of CET-4 and CET-8 for English majors have been above the national average, and the employment rate of graduates has reached 99%.
