学校座落在武汉东湖之滨 ,地处武汉东湖高新技术开发区“中国光谷”
中心腹地,交通十分便利。学校已形成“一校两区”的办学格局,距校本部十五分钟车程的东湖校区环境优美,是培养孕育现代人才的良田沃土,是学习、就业和创业的理想园地。我校在东湖高新技术开发区创办的武汉天歌电子有限公司,以自主的知识产权和高新技术生产的系列数码钢琴已批量生产,为我校学生提供了学工结合、实习实训和就业的平台。2009年,我校被纳入武汉东湖高新技术开发区人才培养体系,每年为该区培养2000名技能型人才。

建校三十年来,学校秉持“求知、修德、强能、报国”的校训,创导“树德立人、博爱诚信、精技强能、开拓创新”的校风,培育熏陶了一代又一代“开院学子”从这里走向辉煌。学校立足湖北,面向全国,始终坚持有教无类、开放办学,以“质量求生存、求信誉;以特色求发展、求完善;以管理求效率、求提高”的办学宗旨,全面贯彻《教育部关于全面提高高等职业教育教学质量的若干意见》的精神,坚持以就业为导向,以需求为使命,办学上求特不求全、求精不求大;坚持“面向学子、面向家长、面向企业、面向市场、面向社会”的原则建立开放教育大平台;坚持“校企合作和工学结合,面向市场设专业,面向岗位设课程,面向就业强技能”的办学方向,以应用能力培养为核心,着力培养生产、建设、管理、服务第一线的高技能人才。多年来,学校探索“六商”并重(德商、智商、情商、信商、财商、健商),“三实”(实训、实习、实践)衔接,“五业”(学业、专业、职业、就业、创业)贯通”的人才培养模式,对教育教学过程进行了全方位的改革,形成了鲜明的办学特色和优势,赢得了社会各界的广泛赞誉。2006年底,学院已顺利通过教育部关于高职高专院校人才培养工作的水平评估。

学校以全日制专科教育为主,形成了包括普通高等教育、成人高等教育、继续教育和中外合作教育的人才培养体系。学校下设人文学院、现代管理学院、财经学院、光电信息学院、机电学院、软件与服务外包工程学院、工业设计学院、艺术学院、继续教育学院等九个二级学院,开设理、工、文、经、管、外等六大类约30个专业。模具设计与制造、通讯技术、物流管理、会计、电子商务、旅游酒店管理专业被列为学校教育改革试点专业。

秉承开放办学的宗旨,学校十分重视校际间和国际上的交流与合作,先后与美国俄亥俄大学、加拿大第一民族大学、曼谷大学、索可泰开放大学、英国开放大学、德国哈根开放大学、香港公开大学、台湾空中大学建立了合作交流关系;与武汉大学、西北工业大学等省内外高校联合办学,开展高升本和专升本教育;与香港旭日教育基金会共同组建湖北开放职业学院旭日国际汉语教育中心,开展对外汉语教育。

学校建有校园网教学行政管理系统、多媒体教学系统、调频外语电台、电子阅览室、语音室、电子电工实验室、通信实验室、电子商务实验室、会计电算化实验室、单片机应用技术实验室、现代办公自动化实验室、计算机组装与维护实验室、物流管理实验室、计算机网络实验室、工程造价实训室、计算机软件实验室、金工实训基地。为了给文、经、管等专业的学生提供一个实习实训、勤工俭学的平台,学校创建了具有自主知识产权的天歌生态农业园和生产数码钢琴的天歌电子产业,以及面向社会服务为特色的“开院商城”网络平台,全方位面向社会提供各种类型的产品和服务。同时设有各级各类奖、助、贷学金及困难学子零学费入学助学子自强、自立、自信成才。

湖北开放职业学院是由原湖北函授大学更名改制而成的普通高等职业院校。其前身湖北函授大学是于1984年11月9日经湖北省教育厅鄂教工农[(1984)016号]文批准成立;1988年3月10日经原国家教委[(86)教计学045号]文批准备案。2002年5月10日湖北省人民政府以鄂政函[(2002)59号]文批准,将湖北函授大学更名改制为民办性质的普通高等学院湖北开放职业学院。具有高等学历教育招生资格的全日制普通高等学校。办学近三十年,己培养各类大专毕业生遍布神州大地。[1]
