西安工程大学简称“西工程”，位于世界历史名城古都西安，是由1978年成立的西北纺织工学院发展而成，其前身为1912年创办的北京高等工业专门学校机织科，其后历经国立北平大学工学院纺织系、西北联合大学纺织系、西北工学院纺织系等发展阶段。1978年成立西北纺织工学院，隶属纺织工业部。

是纺织工业部直属三大高校(华东纺织工学院、天津纺织工学院、西北纺织工学院)之一。2006年，经教育部批准更名为西安工程大学。学校经过长期的发展，已成为一所以工为主、纺织服装为特色、多学科协调发展、具有较强办学实力的普通高等学校。2013年西安工程大学进入陕西一批次录取高校。学校拥有金花、临潼两个校区，占地108万平方米，其中教学行政用房34万平方米，学生宿舍19万平方米。有教学仪器设备总值1.5亿元，图书馆馆藏文献165.2万册，其中纸质文献123.5万册。

设有纺织与材料学院、机电工程学院、电子信息学院、环境与化学工程学院、管理学院、服装与艺术设计学院、人文与社会科学学院、理学院、计算机科学学院、艺术工程学院、应用技术学院(继续教育学院、中澳国际学院)体育部和福州服装学院等15个教学单位。有实验室57个，省级实验教学示范中心4个，省级重点实验室2个，省级工程技术研究中心3个。各类在校学生24000余人，其中本科生20000余人，研究生2000余人。

Xi’an Engineering University, referred to as “West Engineering”, is located in Xi’an, a famous historical city of the world. It was developed from the Northwest Institute of Textile Technology established in 1978. Its predecessor was the Weaving Department of Beijing higher Industrial College, which was founded in 1912. After that, it has gone through the development stages of the Textile Department of National Peiping University of Technology, Northwestern Union University, and Northwest Institute of Technology. The Northwest Institute of Textile Technology was established in 1978, under the Ministry of Textile Industry.

It is one of the three universities directly under the Ministry of Textile Industry (East China Institute of Textile Technology, Tianjin Institute of Textile Technology and Northwest Institute of Textile Technology). In 2006, it was renamed Xi’an Engineering University with the approval of the Ministry of Education. After long-term development, the school has become an ordinary university with industry-based, textile and clothing features, coordinated development of multi-disciplines and strong strength of running a school. In 2013, Xi’an Engineering University entered a batch of colleges and universities in Shaanxi. The school has two campuses, Jinhua and Lintong, covering an area of 1.08 million square meters, including 340000 square meters of teaching administrative room and 190000 square meters of student dormitory. The total value of teaching instruments and equipment is 150 million yuan, and the library has 1.652 million volumes of documents, including 1.235 million copies of paper documents.

It has 15 teaching units, including Textile and Materials College, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering School, Electronic Information School, Environmental and Chemical Engineering School, Management School, Fashion and Art Design School, Humanities and Social Sciences College, Science School, computer Science School, Art Engineering School, Applied Technology College (continuing Education College, China-Australia International College), Sports Department and Fuzhou Garment Institute. There are 57 laboratories, 4 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 2 provincial key laboratories and 3 provincial engineering and technology research centers. There are more than 24000 students of all kinds, including more than 20000 undergraduates and 2000 postgraduates.
