厦门大学介绍

厦门大学(Xiamen
University)，简称厦大(XMU)，是中华人民共和国教育部直属的全国重点大学，是国家“211工程”、“985工程”重点建设高校，是国家“2011计划”牵头高校。入选“111计划”、“珠峰计划”、“卓越工程师教育培养计划”、“卓越法律人才教育培养计划”、“卓越医生教育培养计划”、国家建设高水平大学公派研究生项目，是全国31所副部级中管高校。学校由著名爱国华侨领袖陈嘉庚先生于1921年创办，是中国近代教育史上第一所华侨创办的大学，是国内最早招收研究生的大学之一，被誉为“南方之强”。

建设成果

2006年至2011年，该校共承担科技部和国家自然科学基金委项目、课题700多项，在Science和Nature(含子刊)以及Cancer
Cell、The
Lancet等国际高水平学术期刊上发表论文16篇，2项科研成果获国家自然科学二等奖，1项成果获国家技术发明二等奖。人文社会学科研究实力雄厚，南洋研究、台湾研究、高教研究、经济研究、会计研究等领域居国内领先地位;共承担国家社科基金项目131项(其中国家社科基金重大项目11项)，教育部人文社科规划研究项目157项，教育部重大课题攻关项目4项，立项数均位居全国高校前列。在教育部第四届和第五届高校社会科学优秀成果奖中，分别有19项和14项成果获奖。

科研平台

截至2013年12月，该校设有160多个研究机构，其中国家重点实验室4个，国家工程实验室2个，国家工程技术研究中心1个，教育部重点实验室5个，教育部工程技术中心3个，教育部文科重点研究基地5个，福建省重点实验室、中心28个，厦门市重点实验室、中心16个。厦门大学国家大学科技园是福建省内唯一经科技部、教育部认定的国家级大学科技园。

师资力量

截至2014年5月，该校共有全职专任教师2678人，非全职教师728人。全职教师中，教授835人，副教授878人，具有高级职务的教师占全职教师总数的64%。具有博士学位的有1918人，占72%;45岁以下的为1703人，占65%;全职教师的平均年龄为41岁;具有外校某一级学历、学位的教师1937人。

Xiamen University (Xiamen)

University), referred to as Xiamen University (XMU), is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of the people’s Republic of China, is a key university built by the national “211Project” and “985 Project”, and is the leading university of the national “2011 Plan”. It has been selected into “111 Program”, “Everest Project”, “excellent engineer Education and training Program”, “excellent legal Talent Education and training Program”, “excellent Doctor Education and training Program”, and the National Construction High-level University Public Graduate Program. It is 31 vice-ministerial-level middle-level universities in China. Founded in 1921 by Mr. Tan Kah Kee, a famous patriotic overseas Chinese leader, the school is the first university founded by overseas Chinese in the history of modern Chinese education. it is one of the earliest universities in China to recruit graduate students, and is known as “the strength of the South”.

Construction achievements

From 2006 to 2011, the university undertook more than 700 projects and projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, including Science and Nature (including sub-journals) and Cancer.

Cell 、 The

Lancet and other international high-level academic journals published 16 papers, two scientific research achievements won the second prize of national natural science, and one achievement won the second prize of national technological invention. The research strength of humanities and social disciplines is strong, and Nanyang studies, Taiwan studies, higher education research, economic research, accounting research and other fields occupy a leading position in China; it undertakes a total of 131 projects funded by the National Social Science Fund (including 11 major projects funded by the National Social Science Foundation). There are 157 humanities and social science planning research projects of the Ministry of Education and 4 major projects of the Ministry of Education, all of which rank among the forefront of colleges and universities in the country. In the 4th and 5th University Social Science Outstanding Achievement Awards of the Ministry of Education, 19 and 14 achievements were awarded respectively.

Scientific research platform

As of December 2013, the school has more than 160 research institutions, including 4 state key laboratories, 2 national engineering laboratories, 1 national engineering technology research center, 5 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, 3 engineering technology centers of the Ministry of Education, 5 liberal arts key research bases of the Ministry of Education, 28 key laboratories and centers in Fujian Province, and 16 key laboratories and centers in Xiamen. Xiamen University Science and Technology Park is the only national university science and technology park recognized by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education in Fujian Province.

Teachers’ strength

As of May 2014, the school had 2678 full-time teachers and 728 part-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, 835 are professors and 878 are associate professors. Teachers with senior positions account for 64% of the total number of full-time teachers. There are 1918 people with doctoral degrees, accounting for 72% of the total, 1703 people under the age of 45, accounting for 65%; the average age of full-time teachers is 41 years old; and there are 1937 teachers with a first-level education and degree from other schools.
