南京大学文学院

南京大学文学院，前身为南京大学中国语言文学系，是南京大学历史最悠久的系科之一，也是南京大学学术力量最强的系科之一。其历史可追溯到1902年建立的三江师范学堂和1888年美国基督教会在南京建立的汇文书院，当时虽无系的建制，但汇文书院的首任院长福开森先生就是文学士出身，晚清进士出身的两江师范学堂学监(校长)李瑞清先生更是“提倡国学、科学、艺术不遗余力”的教育家。两校把作为中学、国学根基的中国语言学、中国文学规定为所有学生的主要必修课程。后来长期在南京大学中文系任教的著名国学大师胡小石先生、著名戏曲史家陈中凡先生，以及著名国画大师张大千、吕凤子先生都是两江师范学堂的毕业生。1912年，国民政府颁布实施“壬子学制”，根据这一学制，1914年在两江师范学堂基础上建立起来的南京高等师范学校正式设置中国语言文学系，这是我国近现代高等教育史上最早建立的中文系之一。

中文系建立的第二年(1915)，开始招收本科(4年制)和专科(2年制)学生，后来经历了国立东南大学(1920-1927年)、第四中山大学(1927-1928年)、江苏大学(1928年)、国立中央大学(1928-1949年)几个发展阶段。1949年8月更名为国立南京大学，翌年根据政务院决定，去“国立”而迳称“南京大学”,汇文书院则在1910年与宏育书院合并并改名金陵大学，同年设置中文系宏育书院是由1891年建立的基督书院与1894年建立的益智书院与1906年合并而成。1951年金陵大学与金陵女子文理学院合并为公立金陵大学。1952年全国院系调整时，南京大学的文、理学院与金陵大学的文、理学院合并，奠定了今日南京大学的基础，隶属国家教育部，后属国家高教部，今属国家教委。两校文学院的中文系合并为今日南京大学中文系。2007年，更名为南京大学文学院。

九十余年来一批国学大师和著名学者如李瑞清、黄侃、吴梅、方光焘、胡小石、汪辟疆、陈中凡、潘重规、杨晦、唐圭章、吕叔湘、罗根泽、陈白尘、陈瘦竹、程千帆等先后在本院任教，各层次历届毕业生近万人。

The School of Arts of Nanjing University, formerly known as the Department of Chinese language and Literature of Nanjing University, is one of the oldest departments of Nanjing University and one of the most powerful academic departments of Nanjing University. Its history can be traced back to Sanjiang normal School established in 1902 and Huiwen College established by the American Christian Church in Nanjing in 1888. Although there was no system at that time, the first dean of Huiwen College, Mr. Ferguson, was born with a Bachelor of Arts. Mr. Li Ruiqing, the superintendent (president) of Liangjiang normal School, who was born in the late Qing Dynasty, is an educator who “spares no effort to promote Sinology, science and art”. The two schools make Chinese linguistics and Chinese literature, which are the foundation of middle school and Sinology, as the main compulsory courses for all students. Later, Mr. Hu Xiaoshi, a famous master of traditional Chinese studies who taught in the Chinese Department of Nanjing University, Mr. Chen Zhongfan, a famous opera historian, and Mr. Zhang Daqian and Lu Fengzi, famous masters of traditional Chinese painting, were all graduates of Liangjiang normal School. In 1912, the National Government promulgated and implemented the “Renzi academic system”. According to this academic system, Nanjing higher normal School established on the basis of Liangjiang normal School in 1914 formally established the Department of Chinese language and Literature, which is one of the earliest Chinese departments in the history of modern higher education in China.

In the second year of the establishment of the Chinese Department (1915), it began to enroll undergraduate (4-year) and junior college (2-year) students. Later, it experienced several stages of development: national Southeast University (1920-1927), fourth Sun Yat-sen University (1927-1928), Jiangsu University (1928) and National Central University (1928-1949). In August 1949, it changed its name to National Nanjing University. In the following year, according to the decision of the Administrative Council, Huiwen College merged with Hongyu College and renamed Jinling University in 1910. In the same year, Hongyu College of Chinese was established by the merger of Christian College established in 1891 and Yizhi College established in 1894 and 1906. In 1951, Jinling University and Jinling College of Women’s Arts and Sciences merged into the public Jinling University. During the national adjustment of colleges and departments in 1952, the liberal arts and science schools of Nanjing University merged with those of Jinling University, which laid the foundation of Nanjing University today, which is subordinate to the Ministry of Education, the State Ministry of higher Education and now the State Education Commission. The Chinese Department of the two liberal arts colleges merged into the Chinese Department of Nanjing University today. In 2007, it changed its name to the School of Arts of Nanjing University.

Over the past 90 years, a number of Sinology masters and famous scholars such as Li Ruiqing, Huang Kan, Wu Mei, Fang Guangtao, Hu Xiaoshi, Wang Bijiang, Chen Zhongfan, Pan Zhonggui, Yang Hui, Tang Guizhang, Lu Shuxiang, Luo Genze, Chen Baishen, Chen Lianzhu, Cheng Qianfan have successively taught in our college, with nearly 10,000 graduates at all levels.
