郑州工业贸易学校原名郑州地质学校，始建于1956年，是原国家地质部创办的公办全日制中等专业学校，1996年学校更名为郑州工业贸易学校，从建校至上世纪末，学校为中央部属院校，2000
年 2月划归河南省教育厅管理，学校已有59年的办学历史。

学校目前是国家级重点中专学校、河南省中等职业示范学校、全国职业教育先进单位、河南省地矿行业职业教育校企合作指导委员会秘书长单位、河南省地质职业教育集团理事长单位、河南省“雨露计划”省级培训基地、学校行风建设先进单位、河南省普通大中专毕业生就业工作先进集体，并荣获“河南省文明标兵学校”、河南省品牌示范学校建设单位。

学校位于河南省省会郑州市，总占地面积466.36亩，其中中原路校区占地面积76亩，建筑面积7万平方米;登封校区(实习基地)占地面积10亩，建筑面积1万平方米;新校区位于郑东新区白沙园区，占地361.36亩，建筑面积10万平方米。学校教学科研仪器设备总值近亿元，馆藏图书50余万册，各类实验室60个。学校的地质陈列馆拥有各类矿物、岩石、化石标本和珍贵大型恐龙(包括剑龙)化石近万种;学校在世界地质公园嵩山脚下建立的登封实习基地能同时满足千名学生的学习、生活和地质类专业野外实习实训要求。设有中央财政支持的地质类实训基地和国家计算机技能型紧缺人才培训基地。学校已形成以地质类专业为主、信息技术和经济管理类为辅的专业格局，其中最具特色的地质类专业群包括水文地质与工程地质、测量工程技术、区域地质调查与矿产普查、地质调查与找矿、地球物理勘查技术、钻探工程技术、宝玉石加工鉴定与营销等专业在全国具有一定的影响力。59年来，学校一直面向全国招生，已为国家输送47313名合格毕业生。大批毕业生已成为各条战线特别是地质行业的技术骨干和管理骨干。

全日制普通专科教育是和河南理工大学联合举办的“3+2”高职教育，专业有地质调查及找矿、珠宝玉石加工与营销、水文地质与工程地质勘察、工程测量、地质调查与找矿、珠宝玉石加工与营销、会计。毕业发放河南理工大学专科毕业证书。全日制普通中专教育主要招收初中和高中毕业生，专业有水文地质与工程地质勘察、工程测量、建筑工程施工、珠宝玉石加工与营销、计算机平面设计、汽车运用与维修、会计、电子商务。
