　　皖西学院是经教育部批准设立的省属综合性公办本科院校，学校办学历史可以追溯到原全国人大副委员长朱蕴山先生1918年创办的“安徽省立第三甲种农业学校”。

　　学校坐落在荣膺有“国家级园林城市”、“国家级生态示范区”、“中国水环境治理优秀城市”、“中国人居环境范例奖”、“中国特色魅力城市200强”等称号的安徽省历史文化名城-六安市。六安市是国家级交通枢纽城市，东距省会合肥仅60公里，距新桥国际机场30公里，多条高速铁路和公路穿境而过，目前到北京、合肥、南京、上海、杭州、武汉、长沙、济南等地均有直达动车，交通十分便捷。

　　学校主校区位于四面环水、风景秀丽的月亮岛上，校园内建筑设施、自然景观、人文气息相映成趣，构成了全国高校中独具特色的“湖中学府”、“岛上高校”的滨水生态校园。

　　学校现设有15个二级学院，61个本科专业，隶属于文、理、工、管、教、法、经、农、艺九大学科门类。校园占地1581亩，总建筑面积逾42万平方米。图书馆总藏量150余万册，教学科研仪器设备总值2亿元。学校现有全日制在校生2万人，教职工1070人，其中高级职称教师近300人，硕士及以上学位教师占75%。皖西学院成立后，加快改革发展步伐，于2004年获得学士学位授予权;2006年通过教育部本科教学工作水平评估;2009年被确定为省级硕士学位授权规划立项建设单位和安徽省示范应用型本科高校立项建设单位，进入全省首批重点建设的高校行列;2011-2012年连续两年荣获“安徽省普通高等学校毕业生就业工作标兵单位”称号;2012年获批为“安徽省普通高校大学生创新创业教育示范校”;2013年首批通过教育部本科教学审核评估(试点);2014年获批“地方应用型高水平大学”立项建设单位;2016年被确定为首批省级创业学院。

　　学校重视科学研究与实践应用，坚持以应用型研究为科研方向，注重产学研合作，以科研促教学，以科研强教学。2005年以来，在各类学术期刊上公开发表学术论文4300篇左右，其中被各大检索系统收录289篇，出版专著、编著53部，编写教材80余部。获得厅级以上各类科研项目600多项，其中国家级项目20项，省部级项目201项。学术成果获省部级以上奖励10项，厅级以上奖励46项。26项成果通过了省科技厅、林业厅科技成果鉴定。共获专利40项，其中国家发明专利15项。现有科技创新平台43个，其中植物细胞工程安徽省工程技术中心、仿生传感与检测技术省级实验室获批为省级科技创新平台，人文地理学为省级重点学科，廉政文化研究中心为省级高校人文社科重点研究基地。《皖西学院学报》被评为全国高校优秀社科期刊、中国高校优秀科技期刊。

　　学校积极开展对外交流，先后与美国、英国、法国、芬兰、新加坡、韩国、香港等国家和地区的高等院校、科研院所建立协作和文化交流关系。

West Anhui College is a provincial comprehensive public undergraduate university approved by the Ministry of Education. The history of running the school can be traced back to the ldquo; Anhui Provincial third Class Agricultural School-rdquo;, which was founded in 1918 by Mr. Zhu Yunshan, former Vice Chairman of the National people’s Congress.

The school is located in Lu’an, a famous historical and cultural city in Anhui Province, which has won the title of & ldquo; National Garden City & rdquo;, & ldquo; National Ecological demonstration Zone & rdquo;, & ldquo; China Water Environment Management excellent City & rdquo;, & ldquo; Chinese Human settlement Environment Model Award & rdquo;, & ldquo; Top 200th charm City with Chinese characteristics & rdquo; and so on. Lu’an is a national transportation hub city, only 60 kilometers east from the provincial capital Hefei and 30 kilometers away from Xinqiao International Airport. At present, there are direct bullet trains to Beijing, Hefei, Nanjing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Wuhan, Changsha, Jinan and other places, and the traffic is very convenient.

The main campus of the school is located on the Moon Island surrounded by water and beautiful scenery. The architectural facilities, natural landscape and cultural atmosphere in the campus complement each other, which constitutes a unique waterfront ecological campus in ldquo; Lake & rdquo; and & ldquo; Island & rdquo;.

The school now has 15 secondary colleges and 61 undergraduate majors, which belong to nine disciplines: arts, science, engineering, management, teaching, law, economics, agriculture and art. The campus covers an area of 1581 mu, with a total construction area of more than 420000 square meters. The library has a total collection of more than 1.5 million books, with a total value of 200 million yuan for teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment. The school now has 20, 000 full-time students and 1070 staff, including nearly 300 teachers with senior professional titles and 75% of them with master’s degrees or above. After the establishment of West Anhui College, it quickened the pace of reform and development and won the right to grant bachelor’s degree in 2011. It passed the undergraduate teaching level evaluation of the Ministry of Education in 2006. In 2009, it was identified as the project construction unit of provincial master’s degree authorization planning and Anhui demonstration and applied undergraduate universities. It entered the first batch of key construction universities in the province. It was awarded & ldquo for two consecutive years from 2004 to 2012. The title of rdquo;, the pacesetter for the employment of graduates of ordinary colleges and universities in Anhui Province; in 2012, it was approved as & ldquo; demonstration School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education for College students in Anhui Province & rdquo;;, the first batch of undergraduate teaching examination and evaluation of the Ministry of Education in 2013; in 2014, it was approved & ldquo; Local Applied High-level University & rdquo; Project Construction Unit; in 2016, it was identified as the first batch of provincial entrepreneurship colleges.

The school attaches importance to scientific research and practical application, insists on taking applied research as the direction of scientific research, pays attention to industry-university-research cooperation, promotes teaching by scientific research, and strengthens teaching by scientific research. Since 2005, about 4300 academic papers have been published in various academic journals, of which 289 have been collected by major retrieval systems, 53 monographs and editors have been published, and more than 80 teaching materials have been compiled. It has obtained more than 600 scientific research projects at and above the departmental level, including 20 national projects and 201 provincial and ministerial projects. Academic achievements have won 10 awards at or above the provincial and ministerial level and 46 awards at or above the departmental level. 26 achievements have been appraised by the Provincial Department of Science and Technology and the Department of Forestry. A total of 40 patents have been obtained, including 15 national invention patents. There are 43 scientific and technological innovation platforms, among which the Anhui Engineering Technology Center of Plant Cell Engineering and the provincial laboratory of bionic sensing and detection technology have been approved as provincial scientific and technological innovation platforms, and human geography is a provincial key discipline. The research center of clean government culture is the key research base of humanities and social sciences in provincial universities. The Journal of West Anhui University is rated as an excellent social science journal of national universities and an excellent sci-tech periodical of Chinese universities.

The school actively carries out foreign exchanges and has successively established cooperative and cultural exchange relations with universities and scientific research institutes in the United States, Britain, France, Finland, Singapore, South Korea, Hong Kong and other countries and regions.
