湖南司法警官职业学院是经湖南省人民政府批准、国家教育部备案的公办全日制普通高校，是湖南省唯一一所警察体制的职业院校，教育部高职高专人才培养工作水平评估“优秀”学校;中央政法委政法干警招录培养体制改革试点院校、湖南省示范性高等职业院校、湖南省平安高校、湖南省司法警官培训中心、湖南省司法行政基层工作研究中心。

学院位于长沙市芙蓉区远大二路1069号，校园环境优美，交通便利。学院师资力量雄厚，拥有一支高职称、高学历的“双师型”队伍，具有副教授以上职称及硕士以上学位教师近200人，教学科研成果显著。学院设有执行系、司法系、法律系、管理系和政教部、基础课部、警体部等教学机构，开设有刑事侦查技术、刑事执行、法律事务、社区矫正、司法鉴定技术、司法警务、法律文秘、电子政务、涉毒人员矫治、社区管理与服务、司法信息安全、经济管理等12个专业。

学院教学、实训设施设备完善，建有校内实验实训场所35个。校内图书馆、校园网、电子阅览室、警察心理行为训练场、刑侦实验室、模拟法庭、心理测评中心、速录室、汽车驾驶训练场、警体馆、警务战术训练场、射击场等场地及警用训练器械一应俱全;司法鉴定所、国家职业技能鉴定所、武术搏击俱乐部、驾校等职业技能培训、鉴定机构，为学生提供良好的专业实验实训条件。
