　　华中科技大学是国家教育部直属的全国重点大学，由原华中理工大学、原同济医科大学、原武汉城市建设学院和原科技部干部管理学院于2000年5月26日合并成立，是目前国内规模最大、水平一流的综合性大学之一，被首批列入国家“211工程”、“985工程”重点建设规划；是全国首批设立研究生院的高校之一；是全国首批获准开展培养工程硕士、工商管理硕士(MBA、EMBA)、公共管理硕士(MPA)、公共卫生硕士(MPH)、临床医学等专业学位的试点单位；首批获准试办示范性软件学院，培养软件工程领域的高级应用型人才；首批获准在博士学位授权一级学科范围内自主设置二级学科专业；首批获准自主确定硕士研究生入学考试复试分数线。

　　华中科技大学综合办学实力和整体水平居全国重点大学前列。拥有一批高水平的研究中心，其中有国家重大科技基础设施脉冲强磁场实验装置（立项建设）、武汉光电国家实验室（筹）、国家工程研究中心5个、国家重点实验室和国家专业实验室6个。拥有中国教育与科研计算机网（CERNET）华中地区网络中心、国家技术转移中心、国家高性能计算中心（武汉）、国家大学生文化素质教育基地、现代教育技术中心及大量装备先进的教学、科研现代化实验室。拥有功能完备的现代化图书馆三座，馆藏图书近400万册。有三所装备先进、技术力量雄厚的附属医院（其中附属协和医院、附属同济医院是全国著名医院）和一家出版社。学术交流中心、体育场馆、游泳池、学生活动中心、服务中心、食堂等公共服务设施齐全，为师生的工作学习、生活提供了良好的条件。目前，全日制在校学生56000余人，其中研究生20000余人，外国留学生560余人，港澳台学生200余人。

　　2008年，华中科技大学成立了创新研究院，构建起以项目为驱动的多学科交叉科研平台，是学校培养研究生的“特区”和科学研究“特区”，将重大项目、多学科交叉项目、优秀导师等优质研究资源配置到优秀研究生的培养中，旨在促进学科交叉和前沿领域创新，培养高质量优秀拔尖人才。

Huazhong University of Science and Technology is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, which was established by the merger of the former Huazhong University of Science and Technology, the former Tongji Medical University, the former Wuhan Institute of Urban Construction and the former cadre Management College of the Ministry of Science and Technology on May 26, 2000. it is currently one of the largest and first-class comprehensive universities in China, and has been listed in the national “211 Project” and “985 Project” key construction plan. It is one of the first universities in the country to set up graduate schools; it is the first batch of pilot units approved to train professional degrees such as Master of Engineering, Master of Business Administration (MBA, EMBA), Master of Public Administration (MPA), Master of Public Health (MPH), Clinical Medicine, etc., and the first batch of pilot approved to set up demonstration software colleges to train advanced applied talents in the field of software engineering. The first batch was approved to independently set up second-level disciplines within the scope of the first-level discipline authorized by the doctorate degree, and the first batch was approved to independently determine the reexamination score line of the postgraduate entrance examination.

Huazhong University of Science and Technology has a full range of disciplines and reasonable structure, covering 11 disciplines, such as philosophy, economics, law, pedagogy, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management and so on. It has 7 first-level national key disciplines, 15 second-level key disciplines, 24 first-level disciplines authorized by doctoral and master’s degrees, 178 second-level disciplines authorized by doctoral degrees, 253 second-level disciplines authorized by master’s degrees, and 29 post-doctoral research stations. The school has first-class engineering and first-class medicine, and is building high-level and characteristic liberal arts, science and management disciplines. Huazhong University of Science and Technology has a strong faculty with academicians and doctoral supervisors of the two academies as the backbone. At present, there are nearly 13000 teaching staff (including more than 5000 staff of affiliated hospitals). There are 17 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 45 scholars of the Yangtze River, 27 winners of the Outstanding Youth Fund, more than 700 doctoral supervisors, more than 1000 professors and more than 1300 associate professors.

Huazhong University of Science and Technology is located in Wuhan, the “thoroughfare of nine provinces”, with a total campus area of more than 7000 mu. With verdant trees, green grass, elegant environment and beautiful scenery, the campus is an ideal garden for reading and studying.

The comprehensive school-running strength and overall level of Huazhong University of Science and Technology are in the forefront of the national key universities. It has a number of high-level research centers, among which there are national major scientific and technological infrastructure pulsed strong magnetic field experimental equipment (project construction), Wuhan Optoelectronic National Laboratory (chip), 5 National Engineering Research Center, 6 national key laboratories and national professional laboratories. It has China Education and Scientific Research computer Network (CERNET) Central China Network Center, National Technology transfer Center, National High performance Computing Center (Wuhan), National Cultural quality Education Base for College students, Modern Educational Technology Center and a large number of advanced teaching and scientific research laboratories. It has three fully functional modern libraries with a collection of nearly 4 million books. There are three affiliated hospitals with advanced equipment and strong technical force (among which affiliated Union Hospital and affiliated Tongji Hospital are famous hospitals in the country) and a publishing house. Academic exchange centers, stadiums, swimming pools, student activity centers, service centers, canteens and other public service facilities are complete, providing good conditions for the work, study and life of teachers and students. At present, there are more than 56000 full-time students, including more than 20000 graduate students, more than 560 foreign students and more than 200 students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

In 2008, Huazhong University of Science and Technology established the Innovation Research Institute and built a project-driven interdisciplinary research platform, which is the “special zone” for graduate students and the “special zone” for scientific research. Major projects, interdisciplinary projects, excellent mentors and other high-quality research resources are allocated to the training of excellent graduate students, in order to promote interdisciplinary and frontier innovation, and cultivate high-quality top-notch talents.
