北方工业大学是一所以工为主、文理兼融,具有学士、硕士、博士培养层次和高水平棒垒球运动员招收资格的多科性高等学府,具有硕士研究生免试推荐资格,是教育部“卓越工程师教育培养”院校。学校由中央与北京市共建,以北京市管理为主,前身是创立于1946年的“国立北平高级工业职业学校”。随后几经变迁,于1985年经国务院批准,由北京冶金机电学院易名为北方工业大学。

学校设有计算机学院、电子信息工程学院、电气与控制工程学院、机械与材料工程学院、建筑与艺术学院、土木工程学院、经济管理学院、文法学院、理学院、马克思主义学院、继续教育学院等11个学院,20个系。有43个本科专业。各类学生15000多人,其中,全日制本科生10324人,研究生1747人,成人高等教育学生3100人,外国留学生500人,已经形成从本科生到硕士生、博士生,从全日制到成人高等教育、留学生教育的多层次、广覆盖的办学格局和教育体系。

学校有理、工、文、经、管、法、艺七大学科门类。现有1 个服务国家特殊需求博士人才培养项目,19个硕士学位一级学科,涵盖50个二级学科硕士学位授权点,15个专业学位硕士授权点(其中,11个工程硕士领域、1个法律硕士授权点、1个工商管理硕士授权点、1个会计硕士授权点、1个建筑学硕士授权点),3个第二学士学位授权点。有7个北京市重点建设学科。学校建有工程研究中心(或实验室)、教学实验中心等21个,其中,有1个国家级实验教学示范中心,5个北京市级实验教学示范中心,7个省部级重点实验室/工程研究中心。

学校现有专任教师775名,其中,博士生、硕士生导师370名;全国优秀教师、国家和省部级有突出贡献专家、国家和省部级劳动模范、市级优秀教师、教学名师、师德标兵等43人,长城学者、北京市级高层次人才、学术创新人才、青年拔尖人才、特聘教授、市级青年骨干教师等骨干人才119名,市级学术创新团队、优秀教学团队等团队21个

学校坚持“质量立校,特色办学”的办学宗旨,坚持以学生为本、因材施教的育人理念,形成了尊重差异、重视实践、分类成才的育人特色。实行弹性学分制和分层分流教学制度,以适应学生自主学习、全面发展、个性化成才的需要。学校是国家级人才培养模式创新实验区。建有国家级特色专业建设点3个,国家级精品课程2门,国家级精品教材、国家“十一五”规划教材14部;北京市级特色专业建设点5个,市级精品课程10门,市级精品教材25部。北京市级校外人才培养基地3个。近五年,学校获国家级教育教学成果奖、北京市级教育教学成果特等奖等奖励17项。

学校长期坚持素质为先、全面发展的育人理念。作为国家大学生文化素质教育基地,学校早在上世纪80年代就建立了全国理工科院校第一家艺术馆;在全国率先开设学生必修的《大学语文》和《大学美育》等课程;策划出版“全国大学生文化素质教育丛书”和《大学生GE阅读》系列图书。学生课外活动丰富多彩,学校开展的学生文化、艺术、科技、体育四大节已赓续30年,成为校园文化品牌。

Northern University of Technology is a multidisciplinary institution of higher learning that focuses on industry, integrates both arts and science, has bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral training levels, and recruits high-level baseball and softball players, and is qualified for exemption from examination for postgraduates. It is an institution of “excellent engineer education and training” of the Ministry of Education. The school is jointly built by the central government and Beijing, and is mainly managed by Beijing. its predecessor is the National Peiping Advanced Industrial Vocational School, which was founded in 1946. After several changes, in 1985, with the approval of the State Council, Beijing Institute of Metallurgical Mechatronics changed its name to Northern University of Technology.

The school has 11 colleges and 20 departments, including School of computer, Electronic and Information Engineering, Electrical and Control Engineering, Mechanical and Materials Engineering, Architecture and Art, Civil Engineering, Economics and Management, Grammar, Science, Marxism and continuing Education. There are 43 undergraduate majors. There are more than 15000 students of all kinds, including 10324 full-time undergraduates, 1747 postgraduates, 3100 adult higher education students and 3100 foreign students, which has formed a multi-level and extensive school-running pattern and education system ranging from undergraduate students to master’s degree students and doctoral students. from full-time to adult higher education and foreign student education.

The school has seven major disciplines: science, engineering, liberal arts, classics, management, law and art. It covers 50 second-level discipline master’s degree authorization points, 15 professional degree master authorization points (including 11 engineering master fields, 1 law master authorization point, 1 MBA authorization point, 1 accounting master authorization point, 1 architecture master authorization point), 3 second bachelor degree authorization points. There are seven key construction disciplines in Beijing. The school has 21 engineering research centers (or laboratories) and teaching and experimental centers, including 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, 5 Beijing municipal experimental teaching demonstration centers, and 7 provincial and ministerial key laboratories / engineering research centers.

The school now has 775 full-time teachers, including 370 doctoral and master’s degree supervisors. There are 43 national excellent teachers, national and provincial and ministerial-level experts with outstanding contributions, national and provincial and ministerial-level labor models, municipal excellent teachers, famous teachers, teachers’ moral pacesetters, etc. 119 backbone talents, such as Great Wall scholars, Beijing municipal high-level talents, academic innovation talents, young top talents, specially appointed professors and municipal young backbone teachers, and 21 municipal academic innovation teams and excellent teaching teams.
