长江大学

长江大学是2003年4月经国家教育部批准，由原江汉石油学院、湖北农学院、荆州师范学院、湖北省卫生职工医学院合并组建而成，是湖北省属高校中规模最大、学科门类较全的综合性大学，为湖北省重点建设的骨干高校，是国家“中西部高校基础能力建设工程”入选高校，也是湖北省人民政府与中国石油天然气集团公司、中国石油化工集团公司、中国海洋石油总公司共建和湖北省人民政府与国家农业部共建的高校。

学校本部位于长江中游的历史文化名城—-荆州市，并建有武汉校区。荆州有着悠久的历史和灿烂的文化，是楚文化的发祥地和三国文化的集中地;是春秋时期楚国的都城、伟大爱国诗人屈原的故里，历来为兵家必争之地。这里东衔九省通衢的武汉三镇，西临举世瞩目的长江三峡，南傍浩淼无垠的洞庭湖畔，北垂雄奇险秀的武当山脉。校园环境秀丽，景色宜人，为湖北省园林式高等学校。

学校办学历史悠久，原江汉石油学院的前身为1950年创办的北京石油工业专科学校，1978年开始举办普通本科教育，隶属中国石油天然气集团公司，从2000年起，实行中央与地方共建，划转湖北省管理;原湖北农学院的前身是华中农学院荆州分院，始建于1977年，1989年经国家教委批准为普通本科院校;原荆州师范学院的前身是1936年创建的湖北第四区简易师范学校，1978年成立荆州师范高等专科学校，1999年经教育部批准改建为荆州师范学院;原湖北省卫生职工医学院前身是湖北省沙市卫生学校，始建于1951年，1977年更名为武汉医学院荆州分院，1984年更名为湖北省卫生职工医学院。

学校校园占地面积3501亩，校舍建筑面积145.6万平方米，固定资产21.3亿元。现有各类实验室、实验中心82个，校内外实习基地336个，教学科研仪器设备总值6.3亿元。图书馆纸质藏书326万册，中外文期刊3060种，电子文献10000GB，各类中外文文摘和全文数据库55个。建有体育馆、综合训练馆、游泳馆和足球、网球等场地，各类体育运动场馆设施齐全。

Approved by the Ministry of Education in April 2003, Changjiang University was formed by the merger of the former Jianghan Petroleum Institute, Hubei Agricultural College, Jingzhou normal College and Hubei Medical College of Health Workers. It is the largest comprehensive university with a wide range of disciplines among universities in Hubei Province. It is a key university in Hubei Province and selected by the National “University basic capacity Building Project in Central and Western regions”. It is also a university jointly built by the people’s Government of Hubei Province and China National Petroleum Corporation, China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation, China National Offshore Oil Corporation and the people’s Government of Hubei Province and the Ministry of Agriculture.

The school headquarters is located in Jingzhou, a famous historical and cultural city in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, and has a Wuhan campus. Jingzhou has a long history and splendid culture, is the birthplace of Chu culture and the concentration of the three Kingdoms culture; it is the capital of Chu in the Spring and Autumn period and the hometown of the great patriotic poet qu Yuan. The three towns of Wuhan, known as the thoroughfare of nine provinces in the east, the three Gorges of the Yangtze River in the west, the vast Dongting Lake in the south, and the Wudang Mountains in the north. With a beautiful environment and pleasant scenery, it is a garden-style university in Hubei Province.

The school has a long history. The former Jianghan Petroleum Institute, formerly known as Beijing Petroleum Industry College founded in 1950, began to hold general undergraduate education in 1978, under the China National Petroleum Corporation. Since 2000, it has been jointly built by the central and local governments and transferred to Hubei Province. The former Hubei Agricultural College, formerly known as Jingzhou Branch of Huazhong Agricultural College, was founded in 1977 and approved as an ordinary undergraduate university by the State Education Commission in 1989. The predecessor of the former Jingzhou normal College was the Hubei fourth District simple normal School, which was founded in 1936. Jingzhou normal College was established in 1978 and rebuilt into Jingzhou normal College with the approval of the Ministry of Education in 1999. The former Hubei Provincial Health staff Medical College, formerly known as Shashi Health School of Hubei Province, was founded in 1951. It was renamed Jingzhou Branch of Wuhan Medical College in 1977 and Hubei Health staff Medical College in 1984.

The campus covers an area of 3501 mu, with a construction area of 1.456 million square meters and fixed assets of 2.13 billion yuan. At present, there are 82 laboratories and experimental centers, 336 internship bases inside and outside the school, with a total value of 630 million yuan for teaching and scientific research equipment. The library has a paper collection of 3.26 million volumes, 3060 Chinese and foreign periodicals, electronic literature 10000GB, 55 Chinese and foreign language abstracts and full-text databases. There are gymnasiums, comprehensive training halls, swimming pools, football, tennis and other venues, with complete facilities for all kinds of sports venues.
