国际物品编码协会

　　国际物品编码协会(简称GS1)是一个国际性的非官方的物品编码组织，1977年由多个国家的制造厂商和销售商联合成立，起初名为欧洲物品编码协会，1981年更为现名。协会目前已经拥有九十多个成员，遍及六大洲，中国于1991年4月加入该组织。

　　国际物品编码协会宗旨是开发和协调全球性的物品标志系统，促进国际贸易和发展。协会用数字和条形码标志国家名称、制造厂名称、物品和商品的有关特征，为实现快速、有效的自动识别、采集、处理和交换信息提供了保障，为各国商品进入超级市场提供了先决条件。

　　国际物品编码协会的物品编码有标准版和缩短版两种，标准版是由13位数字构成，缩短版是由8位数字构成。目前，物品编码已广泛应用于工业生产、运输、仓贮、图书、票汇等领域，其作为国际通用的商品标识体系的地位已经确定，必将最终成为国际唯一的通用商品标识系统。

The International object coding Association (GS1) is an international unofficial article coding organization. It was jointly established by manufacturers and sellers from many countries in 1977. It was originally called the European object coding Association, but now it is more named in 1981. The association now has more than 90 members on six continents. China joined the organization in April 1991.

The purpose of the International Article coding Association is to develop and coordinate a global object marking system to promote international trade and development. The association uses numbers and bar codes to mark the relevant characteristics of national names, manufacturing plant names, goods and commodities, providing a guarantee for rapid and effective automatic identification, collection, processing and exchange of information, it provides a prerequisite for commodities from various countries to enter supermarkets.

The International Article coding Association has two kinds of item codes: the standard version and the shortened version. The standard version consists of 13 digits and the shortened version consists of 8 digits. At present, article coding has been widely used in industrial production, transportation, warehousing, books, money transfer and other fields. Its status as an international general commodity identification system has been determined, and it will eventually become the only international general commodity identification system.
