It was announced at the meeting of the International Olympic Committee on July 6, 2005 that this was the third time that London had hosted the Summer Olympic Games. London is by far the city with the largest number of Summer Olympic Games. It is also the second city in history to host the Olympic Games three times, the first: the 1908 London Olympic Games, the second: the 1948 London Olympic Games, and the third: the 2012 London Olympic Games.
