　　东北大学前身是旧制帝国大学-东北帝国大学(1907年成立，原名仙台医科大学)，而东北帝国大学起源于1736年的仙台藩藩校“明伦养贤堂”，东北大学是继东京帝国大学、京都帝国大学之后的第3所旧制帝国大学;1947年10月，东北帝国大学改制为东北大学，成为日本第一所接收女学生和外国学生的大学;2007年，学校举行了100周年校庆。截至2014年5月，东北大学占地面积22263317平方米，其中建筑面积1109478平方米;下辖10个学部、18个大学院;专任教员3174人，其中教授886人，副教授737人;各类学生19037人。

The predecessor of Tohoku University is the old Imperial University-Tohoku Imperial University (founded in 1907, formerly known as Sendai Medical University), while Tohoku Imperial University originated from the Minglun Yangxian Hall of the Sendai Fan School in 1736. Tohoku University is the third old imperial university after Imperial University in Tokyo and Imperial University in Kyoto. In October 1947, Tohoku Imperial University was transformed into Tohoku University, becoming the first university in Japan to accept female and foreign students; in 2007, the school celebrated its 100th anniversary. As of May 2014, Northeastern University covers an area of 22263317 square meters, of which the construction area is 1109478 square meters; it has jurisdiction over 10 departments and 18 colleges; it has 3174 full-time faculty, including 886 professors, 737 associate professors and 19037 students of all kinds.
