　　乌菲奇美术馆建于1560年，它的存在已经有四个世纪之久。这座建筑物最初是按美第奇家族的柯西摩一世旨意建造的，用来作为佛罗伦萨公国政务厅办公室。办公室在意大利语中发音为乌菲奇(UFFIZI一英语的OFFICE)，于是这便成了这座美术馆后来的名称。

　　由于馆藏实在太多，一些藏品不得不转移到佛罗伦萨的其他博物馆中。比如一些有名的雕塑作品就被安放在了巴杰罗美术馆。乌菲兹从2006年开始进行扩建工程，预计2011年完工。扩建之后展馆面积将由6000平方米增至约13000平方米。使得许多过去放在储藏室里的作品得以公开展览。

　　在1993年，一起汽车炸弹爆炸事件，造成了美术馆部分破坏。损坏最严重的是Niobe厅：部分壁画被完全损毁，一些雕塑需要修复。
在2007年8月，佛罗伦斯的一场大暴雨使得部分展厅严重漏水，游客需要疏散。今天，乌菲兹已成为佛罗伦斯最受欢迎的旅游点。在旺季时，尤其是7月间，排队等候进馆的时间会非常久。

Florence is the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance, where the most splendid Italian Renaissance art in human history was born and matured. Uffic gallery was founded in 1560 and has been in existence for four centuries. The building was originally built according to the will of Cosimo I of the Medici family and was used as the office of the Government Office of the Duchy of Florence. The office was pronounced UFFIZI (OFFICE in English) in Italian, so it became the name of the gallery.

Because of the large collection, some of the collections had to be transferred to other museums in Florence. For example, some famous sculptures have been placed on Bajero gallery. Ufiz began its expansion project in 2006 and is expected to be completed in 2011. After the expansion, the area of the pavilion will increase from 6000 square meters to about 13000 square meters. It has enabled many works that used to be put in the storeroom to be exhibited publicly.

In 1993, a car bomb exploded, causing some damage to gallery. The worst damage was in the Niobey hall: some of the murals were completely damaged and some sculptures needed to be repaired.

In August 2007, a torrential rain in Florence caused severe water leakage in some exhibition halls and tourists had to evacuate. Today, Uffizi has become the most popular tourist spot in Florence. During the peak season, especially in July, there will be a very long queue to enter the museum.
