　　梅尼尔收藏博物馆由梅尼尔基金会管理，成立初期以通过艺术促进公众对文化的理解为宗旨。作为美国最大、馆藏范围最广的私人艺术博物馆，其典藏上溯至上古、拜占庭、中世纪、部落艺术等，直至二十世纪中期超现实主义艺术、波普艺术等现当代作品，总共涵括绘画、雕塑、稀有文献等17000多件，可谓兼容并蓄，包罗万象，足以与百科全书式的传统博物馆分庭抗礼。梅尼尔私人博物馆的最大特色是现当代艺术，如绘画、雕塑、装置艺术等，其多元化与丰富性以美国城市博物馆说可谓屈指可数，而且特展比较多，许多展览在纽约现代艺术博物馆和洛杉矶当代艺术博物馆展出后，会直接运往这里继续展出。
