　　爱丁堡军队节从1950年开办，最初英国皇家军队举行这种仪式是在18世纪西里西亚战争期间;到了18世纪末皇家军队逐渐把这个仪式发展成了在军队中带有“娱乐”性质的军乐表演，1950年，爱丁堡举办了第一届音乐节，当时只有8个节目，观众6000人，但反响非常好。到了1952年，虽然观众只增长到7700人，但当时已经有160000多名观众在那个电视还不是很普及的年代通过直播观看表演。中国解放军军乐团第一次参加这个军乐节是在2004年。
