You can see the details of Netflix's Australian January 2019 Speed Index here .
Telstra noted in a media release that, "with consumers streaming more content than ever before", the company "has been working to make sure our customers are able get the best possible experience when watching video from a range of content services including Netflix.
"The Netflix results is due to Telstra customers enjoying the fastest internet speeds available in Australia, combined with access to Australia’s most extensive and sophisticated caching capacity in the region."
Netflix itself states: "The Netflix ISP Speed Index is a measure of prime time Netflix performance on particular ISPs (internet service providers) around the globe, and not a measure of overall performance for other services/data that may travel across the specific ISP network".
The company continues, stating: "The function of ‘caching’ is to store copies of Netflix content to enable streaming from a location closer to consumers.
"To deliver further transparency, Telstra’s speed score has been split between our NBN and non-NBN products – the first time it has happened in Australia.
"The #1 ranked position is for our NBN speed of 4.38Mbps; our non-NBN connections (cable/DSL) is ranked at #4."
