Huawei has had its eyes set on the United States for its flagshipMate 10 Pro handset for a while now, and the company now has a launch window it’s ready to announce.
DuringCES 2018, Huawei has officially confirmed
that the Mate 10 Pro will launch in the United States as an unlocked handset this February. It will go up for pre-order on February 4 and sales will officially go live on February 18 for those interested. It will be available in Titanium Gray, Midnight Blue, and Mocha Brown and it will be priced at $799.
You’ll be able to buy it from the likes of Best Buy, Amazon, Microsoft, Newegg, and B&H. For those keeping track, there is no U.S. wireless carrier on that list because, as it was reported earlier this week, AT&T reportedly stepped away from talks
to launch the Huawei-branded Mate 10 Pro.
The unlocked handset will support GSM-based networks. So if you pick up the smartphone when it launches, it will work on carriers like AT&T, T-Mobile, MetroPCS, Cricket, Simple Mobile, and TracFone.
Here’s a quick refresher on what the Mate 10 Pro has to offer for that aforementioned $799 price tag: 6-inch 2160×1080 OLED display, octa-core Kirin processor, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of built-in storage, and a battery that measures in at 4000mAh. On the back there are a pair of Leica-branded cameras, one of which is a 20MP monochrome shooter, and the other is a 12MP RGB sensor. There is an 8MP front-facing camera on the other side.
The Mate 10 Pro is also running Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, underneath Huawei’s EMUI 8.0 user interface.
Not launching with a U.S. carrier is a tough break for Huawei, but the fact the Mate 10 Pro will at least be available as an unlocked option is better than nothing for those who have been wanting to pick it up.
