6 iPhone Features Apple’s Controversial Power Management Does Not Impact

Thanks to all the criticism that Apple has received since it revealed that it intentionally degrades older iPhone batteries, the company was forced to issue an apology and communicate better with its customers. Apple also made a new support page where it clearly mentions the various aspects of an iPhone that would be affected by aging batteries.

It also promises to roll out a new software update in early January that would provide iPhone customers with more information about the health of the battery in their device. When Apple first confirmed that it indeed slows down older iPhones due to their older batteries, it was not clear as to what aspects of the device were being affected by this. However, in its apology, the company clearly mentioned the various functions that are affected due to sub-par battery health which includes lower speaker output, reduced CPU performance, increased app loading times and more.

Thankfully, Apple was smart enough to also mention the aspects of an iPhone that are not affected by its controversial power management feature. These are as follows:

  • Cellular call quality and networking throughput performance
  • Captured photo and video quality
  • GPS performance
  • Location accuracy
  • Sensors like gyroscope, accelerometer, barometer
  • Apple Pay

The problem here is that Apple’s power management feature affects other key areas of an iPhone like its performance and app loading times. This leads to a sub-par experience and frustrates owners. So, even if other basic features like camera, GPS and call quality are working as intended, it does not really help in any way. After all, most iPhone owners end up upgrading to a new one because their existing iPhone has slowed down and not because it is dropping calls or its GPS performance has deteriorated. If you are unsatisfied with any of the above aspects of your iPhone, you should consider upgrading to a newer one instead of replacing it since that’s not going to help in any way.
