In 1989, the White Sturgeon was listed as a national first-class protected wildlife, was listed as “extremely critical” by the World Conservation Union (IUCN) in 1996, and was identified as “extremely endangered (possible extinction)” in 2009.
The last time the Yangtze River White Sturgeon was found alive in China was in 2003.On January 24 of that year, fishermen in Yibin, Sichuan Province mistakenly caught a 3.5-meter-long white Sturgeon on the Yangtze River. He still had a wound on his body, and fish eggs were found in his abdomen, and 24 stitches were finally stitched.
Experts came to rescue the injured White Sturgeon. After recovering, the White Sturgeon was released back to the Yangtze River, and the image left became the last memory.
