It’s shocking to see real spiders with cartoon characters. Pringles set up a petition urging people to support changing the spider’s name to Pringles Spider. The company is calling on groups such as the International Spider Society to formally change the little guy’s name.

Of course, this is a publicity stunt, and it seems unlikely that a formal scientific organization will change a perfect-or even boring-spider name to promote a snack product.

People can sign or not sign the petition. The company promises to give a limited number of free Pringles gifts if the name is really changed.
