Just because Apple, LG or Sony are effectively done with their high-profile H2 2016 smartphone announcements, it doesn’t mean we’re in for a boring couple of months, as everyone holds off until January or February to unleash the next wave of mobile powerhouses.
Samsung still has the Galaxy C9 up its sleeve to try to minimize the shock of a prospective Note 7 cancelation , HTC is looking to strike while the iron is hot with a headphone jack-excluding Bolt , Huawei should release both Mate-series flagships and Honor-branded mid-rangers this year, and finally, there’s OPPO.
This rapidly growing budget-focused Chinese OEM doesn’t exactly sound like it has something groundbreaking in the pipeline. Merely minor,S-labeled upgrades for the surprisingly successful R9 , akaF1 Plus, and R9 Plus.
But the OPPO R9s and R9s Plus still get the full pre-launch buildup treatment, including a name confirmation for the smaller model via a fancy jewelry box containing a 16MP Sony IMX398 camera sensor replica.
This is an as-yet unreleased new member of the Exmor family, and should adopt dual-pixel technology (a la Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and Note 7), vastly improving the photography and video recording prowess of the 16MP IMX298 cam module on the back ofthe original R9 duo.
We finally have a precise introduction date too, specifically October 19, which just so happens to be the day after the Honor 6X’s confirmed public debut. Anyone else excited about the weeks to come?
