The iPhone 6 Plus was connected to the power adapter that came bundled with it. At around 3AM, Estrada was awakened by a loud noise and the smell of burnt plastic. The iPhone emitted thick, black smoke.
Reportedly, Estrada bought her iPhone three months ago. She proceeded to call Apple on the next day and provided photos of the burnt smartphone. She's bound to receive a replacement unit from the local Apple store as well. While Estrada wasn't harmed by the incident, the exploding iPhone damaged her bedside table, a pair of glasses, and an Apple Watch stand.
Earlier this week, an iPhone 6 Plus burned in the back pocket of college student Darina Hlavaty. The cause of fire in both incidents is not yet known, although it might be a case of defective batteries or a short circuit. Apple hasn't addressed the events yet, but is currently investigating both devices.via()
