Well, isn’t this a nice surprise.A late but extremely welcome little treat for inhumanly patient owners of the “classic” Nexus 6. The Motorola-made predecessorof last year’s Huawei Nexus 6Pshould have really received stock Android 7.0 goodiesseveralweeks back, but hey, better late than never.
Besides, there’s still one not-so-old Nougat-eligible device left waiting on ancient OS build 6.0, so be happy the OG N6 was at least prioritized over the LTE-enabledHTC Nexus 9.
We’re also glad to report Google has uploaded both factory and OTA 7.0.0 images to its servers, with NBD90Z and NBD90X designations respectively, and for once, the actual over-the-air update seems to be rapidly underway around the world.
That doesn’t mean every single Nexus 6 user can already sink their teeth in scrumptious Nougat sans manually downloading the 800MB+ software enhancement pack. But it might only take a few days for the rollout to globally spread out.
Of course,Android 7.1 is about to hit the scene on board of thePixel and Pixel XL, with an increasingly polished version ofGoogle Assistant likely baked in, so it remains to be seen how many N6 owners will be able to resist a hardware upgrade.
