At the tail-end of September,a report cropped up that outlined Apple’s plans to launch something called “Spoken Editions,” which was rumored to launch in early October.
And sure enough, Apple has done just that. The company has officially launched Spoken Editions within iTunes (Mac and PC) and the Podcasts iOS app, which will narrate select stories found at some of the most popular publications around. As it stands right now, there is Spoken Editions content from TechCrunch , TIME , OZY Presidential , and WIRED News .
There is also content from Playboy , IGN , Mic , and many others. As TechCrunch reports, there are many partners at launch, with over 40 Spoken Editions available at launch.
Apple says the Spoken Editions are perfect for those who don’t want to read content on a website, for whatever reason, and narration is a better option in those instances.
Spoken Editions are already available in different categories, including “Money Talks,” “Millennial Mindset,” and others.
SpokenLayer, the company that partnered with Apple to bring Spoken Editions to life, says it will be working to launch hundreds of episodes for people to listen to every single week. Some of the content is ad-supported, so be aware, but the content within Spoken Editions is free.
