The Financial Supervisory body of the Taiwanese government has started accepting applications from banks to supportApple Pay. The applications indicate that Apple Pay will be rolled out in the country by the end of 2016.
Initially, Apple Pay in Taiwan will only work with credit cards, with support for debit and other cards being added at a later date. Taiwanese banks that are expected to support Apple Pay at launch include TBC Bank, Cathay United Commercial Bank, E.SUN Commercial Bank, and Taishin International Bank — four of the largest banks in the region.
Apple recently rolled out carrier billing in Taiwan making it among the very few countries that support carrier billing on the iOS App Store.
Apple has been aggressively expanding Apple Pay to various parts of the world. This year alone, it has expanded its mobile payment service to Singapore , France, China, Switzerland, and more. It has also been adding support for new retailers and banks throughout the world to help increase its adoption among iPhone users.
