With reports that the screen on the Pixel 2 XL suffers from screen burn-in
, black smear and other problems, Google could face a Class Action lawsuit filed by thosePixel 2 XL buyers who are having issues with their displays. The phone, manufactured by LG, employs LG Display’s 6-inch pOLED screen. The “p” before the OLED acronym stands for plastic, and the display employs a QHD+ resolution.
Once certified by a judge, a Class Action suit consolidates individual law suits filed throughout the country for the same issues. A law firm by the name of Girard Gibbs LLP is already looking to recruitPixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL owners to join the prospective class. While the screen issues are affecting Pixel 2 XL users, the Pixel 2 has had problems with clicking and whistling sounds
. The noises seem to be heard when trying to make a phone call on the device.
Google, HTC and LG better be lining up some big name barristers in addition to their in-house teams. Girard Gibbs LLP has been involved in previous Class Action law suits against smartphone manufacturers including the one filed against LG for bootstrap issues with theLG G4 and theLG V10. Other LG made handsets, including theNexus 5X andLG V20, were also part of the suit. And the firm also sued Motorola for $5 million over poor customer service related to warranty claims that Motorola allegedly failed to handle properly. HTC produced the Pixel 2 while LG manufactured the LG 2 XL.
“Girard Gibbs is investigating claims against Google, HTC, and LG for manufacturing, marketing, and selling defective Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL phones. Both phones have exhibited abnormalities. Owners of the more expensive Pixel 2 XL have reported that the devices’ OLED screens are suffering from “burn-in”—a phenomenon where a portion of the display remains visible even after changing the screen to display something else, degrading user experience. Pixel 2 XL owners have also reported significant “black smear”—a problem affecting certain OLED displays, in which the movement of pixels against a black backdrop creates a black smudge, distorting the display. Finally, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL owners have reported persistent whistling and clicking sounds while attempting to make phone calls.”-Girard Gibbs LLP
For its part, Google has doubled the length of the warranty
on both the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL from one-year to two-years.
