With the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus making their way into the hands of consumers and Apple stores in launch countries, the first set of unboxing videos of the handset have also made their way to the internet. Popular YouTuber MKBHD has posted an unboxing video of the Silver iPhone 8 and Gold iPhone 8 Plus and also shared his first impressions of them.
Marques notes that the Gold iPhone 8 Plus comes in a cream color box, while the silver iPhone 8 box has a white finish. The in-box content remains the same as last year which means we are looking at a 5W USB power adapter, a Lightning-to-3.5mm adapter, USB-A to Lightning cable, and some regulatory papers. The initial setup process on the new iPhones running iOS 11 was also the same, with the addition of a TrueTone toggle being the only difference. First introduced with the 9.7-inch iPad Pro in 2016, the feature automatically adjusts the color temperature of the display to make reading content easier on the eyes.
After going through the initial setup process, MKBHD fired up Geekbench on the iPhone 8 Plus and Galaxy Note 8 for comparison purposes. Unsurprisingly, the A11 Bionic chip absolutely blew away the octa-core Snapdragon 835 chip inside the Note 8. In single-core benchmarks, the iPhone 8 Plus scored 3958 — more than double of the Note 8’s score of 1866. In the multi-core benchmark, the Note 8 managed to edge out the iPhone 8 Plus by a whisker with a score of 6436 vs 6391. However, Snapdragon 835 is an octa-core chip while the A11 Bionic is a 6-core chip. So, theoretically, the Note 8 should have performed much better in this test.
